Effective Date Rules

Your coverage effective date depends on the plan’s rules and any waiting period. These FAQs explain when coverage starts after you enroll.

When does coverage become effective after I enroll?

HealthInsuranceFAQs, June 16, 2026June 16, 2026

Your effective date depends on the plan’s rules: most commonly the first of the month after hire or after a waiting period, though some plans use the hire date itself. Any waiting period is capped at 90 days under the ACA.
