Catastrophic Plans

Catastrophic plans pair low premiums with very high deductibles and mainly guard against worst-case costs. They are limited to people under 30 or those with a hardship or affordability exemption, and premium tax credits cannot be applied to them.

Can I use a premium tax credit or other savings with a catastrophic plan?

June 30, 2026 by HealthInsuranceFAQs

No. A catastrophic plan isn’t a qualified health plan for the premium tax credit, so subsidies and cost-sharing reductions can’t lower its cost. If you qualify for that help, a Bronze or Silver plan is usually a better value because the savings apply to it.
